The BodyViz Zoo | 3D Veterinary Anatomy Studies
September 14, 2021
BodyViz virtual dissection allows for limitless anatomy learning opportunities with our growing library that houses 1,000s of scans of humans and animals. Today we want to invite you along through the BodyViz Zoo and introduce you to some of the animals we have!
Typical anatomy labs include dissections of frogs, felines, and fetal pigs. We have BodyViz scans of these anatomy lab classics as well as more exotic animal dissections including canines, equine, goat, alligators, snake, golden eagle, guinea pig, rabbit, dog sharks, mudpuppies, and more! We also have multiple animal patient case studies that showcase the real anatomy of different diagnosis and complications as well as developmental anatomy of different species. To showcase this, let’s learn a bit more about some of our animals in the BodyViz Zoo! We have our zoo divided into four sections which are: house pets, on the farm, reptiles, and feathers or fins!
House Pets
Feline, Canine, Guinea Pig, and Rabbit.
Challenge your students to begin thinking like a vet and identify the problem! Can they spot the broken limb of a guinea pig or a mass within a rabbit? With BodyViz 3D anatomy software they can practice identifying and gaining real experience and critical problem-solving skills!
We have multiple canine and feline scans showcasing a variety of pathology. The best way for students to understand anatomy and biology concepts is by giving them big picture ideas and applications of what they are learning. Using real patient case studies in your classroom and anatomy labs does exactly this! Teach students about the complexity of a canine digestive system and use an example of a BodyViz virtual dissection of a canine with a blocked bowel. Learning about the thymus? Use our feline thymoma BVF (BodyViz file) scan to showcase possible complications. Our library already includes examples of canine:
- Arthritis
- Osteophytes
- Pelvic fractures
- Cardiac failure
- Cervical mass
- Degenerative spine
- Portosystemic shunt
- Renal tumor
- Paralysis
- Gallstones and more!
The list of case studies is limitless with the ability to also upload MRI and CT scans of your own!
On the Farm
Fetal and Adult Pigs, Equine, Goat, Cow Eyes, and Sheep Heart and Brain.
We have personally named our pig BVFs Wilbur and Miss Piggy within the BodyViz team. Wilbur is male fetal pig and Miss Piggy is an adult female pig. Students can use the “multiple volume viewer” mode in the BodyViz 3D dissection software to side-by-side compare and dissect developmental anatomy.
Bring animals into the lab that you may not normally have the space for like a horse and goat! One of the benefits of BodyViz online dissection is that it can be accessed from anywhere on a computer or laptop. Students and instructors can dissect in the classroom or during lab, and also from their home with BodyViz! With normal dissections time is wasted preparing and preserving dissections to continue the following week. But with BodyViz 3D virtual anatomy, simply click “save” and you can pick up where you left off at any time, from anywhere!
Reptiles
Adult and Adolescent Alligators, and Snakes.
Capture students' attention and get them excited by featuring anatomy dissections of unique animals! You can include interesting study units on unique characteristics like the jaws of alligators and vertebrae of snakes! Take genus and species naming and studying to the next level with 3D anatomy dissections.
Feathers or Fins
Golden Eagle, Bullfrog, Mudpuppies, and Dog Sharks.
What do feathers and fins have in common? Nothing. We just decided to group them together in our zoo. We have male and female dog sharks, multiple mudpuppy salamanders, Kermit the bullfrog, and our feathered friend- a golden eagle!
Kermit is an anatomy lab classic. With BodyViz virtual dissection, you can take the high school anatomy lab memory and put a futuristic spin on it by dissecting Kermit in 3D! Students can cut, label, examine, filter the tissue type, and change the coloring with the real anatomy of this amphibious friend and any other animal from the BodyViz Zoo!
